Shopping and Places to Eat
Shopping
Hopetown has several well stocked grocery stores. Because it is a small island, however, the meat is generally frozen and the fresh vegetable and fruit selection may be limited. The selection has improved over the years, though, because there are more grocery stores from which to choose. Grocery shopping is not different than in any small town, though the prices are higher than stateside. Be sure when you arrive to find out if there are any holidays during the week of your stay, as stores may be closed That knowledge will enable you to gauge your shopping excursions. Usually, when we visit Hope Town, we bring a cooler that contains a frozen tenderloin, frozen turkey breast, and frozen ham. This provides more than enough meat for a week's visit. Also, in Hope Town are small shops for souvenirs, a Post Office, a Liquor Store, and a Medical Clinic. There is a large supermarket in Marsh Harbour, if you want to do some shopping before coming across by ferry. The taxi from the airport to the ferry will be happy to wait for you, if you just let him know your plans when you arrive.
Places to Eat
There are several restaurants on the island. We like the Abaco Inn for breakfast. They have great conch omelets. Their lunches and dinners are also good. Rudy's place has great Bahamian lobster and is quieter than most of the other restaurants. The local people seem to especially like this restaurant. Harbor's Edge is good for lunch and Hope Town Harbor Lodge is fun to go to on a beautiful day. It overlooks the Atlantic and there is excellent snorkeling off their beach. Sea Spray Resort is very close to our house (within walking distance). They are known for their Monday night buffet. Another restaurant in town is Captain Jack's.
